Understanding Symphony with a Case Analysis of The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra  

SPEAKER: SHI Wenjie, Associate Professor in TEFL from School of Foreign Studies, CUFE.    

SHI Wenjie began studying music by playing Chinese flutes in his childhood without any professional guide and loves music of a varied genres ever since. He has been dedicated to studying foreign languages, music & instruments for many years. He has a particular passion for studying and promoting Western Classical Music after having acquired two foreign languages: English and French. He will share with the audience how to enjoy Western Classical Music with the help of foreign languages.  

OUTLINE:    

WHY do we need to study Western Classical Music?  

Entertainment, cultural exploration & well-rounded education;            

WHAT should we know about Western Classical Music?  

Historical periods, genres and representative works;  

HOW to enjoy the classical orchestral works?  

Instruments and their tone colors in  

The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten;  

WHERE can we enjoy the music?  

Attending performance of recommended music works in a step-by-step way.
